Annette Funicello's dancer was spotted at Fullerton California by Walt Disney at just 13 years old. In spite of the opposition of the Mickey Mouse Club co-stars, Funicello was added to the cast in the show's first season, and wasn't required to audition. This was the first in a series of films about beach parties that were hugely famous.
